Effect of Clay Brick Waste Powder on the Fresh and Hardened Properties of Self-Compacting Concrete: State-of-the-Art and Life Cycle Assessment

Sustainability and reducing environmental damage caused by CO2 emissions have become issues of interest to researchers in the construction sector around world. Reducing cement content concrete partially substituting it with by-products or waste falls within this field as industry is responsible for 7% global emissions. On other hand, self-compacting (SCC) one special types that contains a large amount powder (most which cement) ensure its flow under influence weight without separating components. Therefore, produce eco-friendly SCC, many replaced part clay brick (CBWP) since units are among most widely used building materials after concrete. Accordingly, study aims review previous research included using CBWP SCC. The effect these wastes on fresh, mechanical, durability microstructural properties was reviewed. Additionally, comparison between impacts SCCs different contents has been conducted life cycle assessment (LCA) approach. It found highest value can be negatively affecting 10% cement. Moreover, regarding impact, substitute reduces damage, lowest impact achieved per strength unit (MPa) 37.5%.
